DIY installation of artificial grass
Suitable surfaces for artificial grass
Artificial grass without sand infill
Non-sand filled grasses such as Verdegrass and SuperVerdegrass are best laid on a solid base as they are fixed in place using an adhesive. Bases can include decking, patios, interior floors, outdoor concrete sealed bases and roofs. Paving slabs need a covering of sand or to be replaced with a smooth surface to avoid existing patterns showing through the laid grass.
The smoother and more free draining the surface the better.
Grasses such as SuperVerdeturf and Verdeluxe may also be bonded to a solid base removing the need to dress them with a sand infill.
Artificial grass with sand infill
Sand filled grasses such as Verdeturf, SuperVerdeturf and Verdeluxe are best laid on an aggregate prepared base dressed with sharp sand. This ensures that the base is free draining, level and weed free over the long term. It is not advisable to lay artificial grass directly on top of existing turf as the natural grass will rot underneath the artificial grass carpet. If laid directly on soil there maybe movement in the grass position over time and it is very difficult to rectify once the sand infill has been brushed in.
